Techplast Antifoul Coating trials are underway at Fremantle Boat Harbour, Perth Australia.

These trials are continuing and after 15 months they confirm the intrisically antifouling/antiscaling properties of the coating and the substantially reduced rates of fouling, with the fouling that does occur being limited to dirt and slime that readily dislodges/falls off with the slightest of effort.

In November 2007 Techcoat Services Insitu Electroless Nickel Plated (EN) a 12 meter long 1.5 meter diameter, high temperature, high pressure, caustic reaction vessel. At the time the vessel was corroding at around 3,000um per year (of carbon steel), being replaced every 3 years and was then 2 1/2 years into it’s life – it had around 6 months of corrosion allowance remaining before it would be condemned.

In July 2011 (after over 3 1/2  years) the vessel continues to be in use with the EN plating effectively halting the underlying carbon steel corrosion. That’s more than an extra 3  years life on top of the 6 months anticipated.

Techcoat Services develop equipment and systems for the internal coating of small bore pipelines. We can internally coat pipelines of 38mm internal diameters and lengths of 6 meters.  The equipment and systems can be further developed to coat varying diameters and lengths. Coatings systems are suited to the Alumina, Oil & Gas, Heavy Chemicals and Resources Industries.

Applied coatings can be high heat/high corrosion resistant, antiscaling  and/or low friction.

Antifoul Tests

Techcoat Services develop a Techplast Antifoul and frp laminate system, whereby Techplast Antifoul is applied to the fibreglass mould and laminated onto (with Techplast Antifoul taking the place of the Gel coat). This provides an extreme long term, smooth, low friction, antifouling surface straight from the mould. Techcoat Services has been able to incorporate Techplast Antifoul into a conventional vinyl ester laminate as well as a high performance epoxy laminate. An added benefit is that Techplast is highly impermeable and should offer vastly superior resistance to osmosis and eliminate gel coat blistering.

A 12 meter long by 1.5 meter diameter high temperature, high pressure, caustic reaction vessel fabricated from carbon steel was corroding at around 3,000um per annum and was being replaced regularly every 3 years. After 2 ½ years use (and with only 2,000um corrosion allowance remaining) Techcoat Services Insitu Electroless Nickel Plated the vessel, the vessel was subsequently checked every 3 months for wall internal corrosion and resultant wall thickness and the EN has effectively halted the corrosion of the carbon steel. After an additional 2 ½ years of use the vessel still retains the corrosion allowance that was evident pre plating. Essentially this vessel has been given a new lease of life and continues to perform in service well beyond its normal replacement date.

Techcoat Services completed the design and installation of a flexible joint system for an 18m Permeate Water Storage Tank at a Desalination Plant. The tank was constructed with ceramic coated steel walls embedded within an epoxy coated concrete floor. Read the rest of this entry »

Techcoat Services supply and apply Techplast 502 to Neutralisation Vessels within the mineral sands industry. The applied coating has been very very successful with the vessels fouling much less, being far easier to clean (saving both time and money) with an added and unanticipated benefit is that the mixing performance of the vessels has been improved and chemical additions have been significantly reduced.

Techcoat Services Combined-Ester ABS fibreglass reinforced abrasion resistant topcoat system provides over 6 years life in a high temperature acid scrubber fan housing, prior to Techcoat developing this system our client has only been able to achieve 3 months effective coating life.
